Beautiful, Plant-based Intimate Care - Lark Love
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Rainbow Shultz, Co-Founder of Lark Love, located in Jamestown, CO, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Lark Love is a revolutionary organic botanic body care business based on the idea that women's bodies should be celebrated, not treated with shame. We make an organic personal lubricant and daily intimate moisturizer that are created specifically for women's bodies. Our customers are women a wide range of women spanning from ages 25-75.
Tell us about yourself
My partner Corrie Bradley is an herbalist and has been formulating body products for over a decade. We were laughing about how there aren't any high-end luxury botanical products for vaginas- and then, after the laughing subsided, we actually wondered: why not? There are beautiful botanic products for every body part but not women's intimate bodies. Historically these products have been applied to women without acknowledging that it is being applied to their most absorbent tissue and treating women like object in the interaction rather than the subject in self-care. Getting to have these conversations with women about their bodies and about this new shame-free paradigm has been really fun and motivating. It feels amazing to get to contribute to a shift in the conversation about how we talk about ourselves as women and how we get to treat ourselves.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
We had really wanted our products to be featured and sold on "Goop" because Gwyneth Paltrow's website embodies the new shame-free narrative about self-love and self-care. We have been pretty thrilled to be working with them, and that partnership has been a great accomplishment.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
It's such a catch that, in today's business climate, you continue to need funding to grow. Always keeping that in mind is a challenge. We want to be able to get our products to every woman in the country today, but it takes patience and planning to get there. We have to remember to enjoy the journey.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Corrie and I like to pick fun places to have meetings. It can be really motivating to look forward to sharing information in new spots with great views or new atmospheres. There isn't any point in having your own business if you aren't enjoying the process.
- Patience has been really important for us. We have to take turns pushing ourselves to take risks to grow the company and then reminding each other that everything takes time.
- Every interaction with everyone you meet is an opportunity to learn something that could help your business or share with someone about your business. A conversation at a coffee shop with a stranger might be a surprise breakthrough conversation.
