Effective Language Learning - Languageboost

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Fabricio Carraro, Founder of LanguageBoost, located in Barcelona, Spain.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My company, LanguageBoost, helps passionate language learners, travelers, and people who live abroad to learn a new language, even if they could never do it before using other methods. We facilitate world-class training programs based on language learning techniques created by ourselves Lucas Bighetti and Fabricio Carraro throughout the last decade. These methods have been created by studying the world's top polyglots and reaching fluency in many languages ourselves.

Tell us about yourself

I'm originally from Brazil, and I was a very curious child. The first moment I was faced with foreign languages was around 2nd or 3rd grade when a couple of kids who studied in the same class as me started speaking English to each other. Their parents had a lot of money, so they could afford private English lessons. I felt admiration but also a little bit of jealousy. I would also like to have a secret language to talk to other classmates and friends, but I was just a kid, and there wasn't much I could do.

Many years passed, and I was very interested in other countries and other cultures, but I could only speak some English. Everything started to change when I was 18. I got the chance to take an intensive Italian course in Brazil, a birthday gift from my godmother. My Italian roots spoke louder than anything else, and I found out that he could actually be pretty good at learning languages. I became a programmer and kept language learning as a hobby. However, the languages kept calling me, and when I was 27, I got a job in Europe and haven't stopped traveling since then.
On this journey, I learned from the world's leading polyglots how people succeed in learning foreign languages, attended several polyglot conferences, and I can currently speak 14 languages (at different levels), namely: Brazilian Portuguese, English, Italian, Russian, Spanish, Polish, German, French, Dutch, Greek, Hebrew, and also some Turkish, Romanian, and Croatian.

Together with my business partner, Lucas Bighetti, I want to develop LanguageBoost with the goal of helping people from all over the world to learn languages faster and more effectively, as polyglots do.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My business partner got seriously ill some years ago, and when he finally got well, we had to basically reset all processes on LanguageBoost, and create new courses and strategies, in order to reach our fans again. It was a big challenge, but I believe we have been successful in overcoming it, and the future looks bright.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The constant worry about honoring your financial commitments.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't do it alone.
  2. Get help and advice when you need it.
  3. Know your numbers well, and also plan in advance.
