What's your business, and who are your customers?
I'm an unposed, candid family photographer for any type of family. I love photographing typical routines, quirky personalities, and strong relationships. Last year I photographed a birth and a 102nd birthday party, so I celebrate every season of life because each day is unique.
Tell us about yourself
Something that makes me unique is I have an odd way of making people feel comfortable when the camera is up and when it's down. I can connect with people and be authentic, which in turn helps my clients vulnerably open up their life to me.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I feel like my biggest accomplishment was switching from posed family portraits to documenting real life. It was a major shift away from typical industry standards, but it's made all the difference, and I'm so much more passionate about my work.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The business side of it all is the hardest part. Marketing and finances. It doesn't come naturally, so I've had to put a lot of time and work into learning how to be successful.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Make brave and bold moves. If you don't feel passionate, adjust and find the right fit or business model for you.
- Learn from the best and never stop. I spend lots of time and money on continuing education.
- Invest in your support system. With people who have your back, you can be unstoppable.
