Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Landon Gilfillan, Founder of Landon Gilfillan Nutrition, located in Kalamazoo, MI, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is Landon Gilfillan Nutrition. I help busy moms and women ditch the drama surrounding food, weight loss, and mealtime with my "no-fuss" nutrition coaching program & customized meal planning services.

Tell us about yourself

My passion for nutrition started at the age of 15 after escaping the grips of an eating disorder. This personal struggle resulted in resilience, knowledge, and a passion for helping other women experiencing similar struggles, including eating disorders, diet addiction, food obsession, and an unhealthy body image. My passion and focus have morphed over the years to specifically help busy moms and women manage their own health and that of their families with joy and ease.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner has been building and managing my business from scratch, including the imagery, copy, marketing, selling, and backend processes. It's also been hearing the success stories of past clients and how their lives have positively changed after our coaching together.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is the learning curve that comes along with building a business from scratch, including the marketing, selling, and backend processes! As the sole employee of my business, I have had to learn all facets of my business, which has been great but has also taken a lot of time management and motivation.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Keep your original passion and your "why" at the front end of your mind. This is the thing that will keep you motivated with times get tough because they inevitably will.
  2. Break down your business goals and dreams for the year into quarterly and monthly bites. This will feel much less overwhelming and help you focus on smaller tasks you can accomplish in daily and weekly chunks.
  3. Hone in on your time management and calendaring skills. Start each week with a focus time to lay out your business, personal, and family tasks and events for the week. Then you can see where you are spending your time and how to adjust those times to accomplish your work and personal goals more efficiently. You'll be amazed where you are losing time and where you can gain time to put towards your business.
