What's your business, and who are your customers?
Lamb and Honey is a plant-based, artisan body care company that thrives on taking care of women and their families. We impact every life we touch by creating fresh, sustainable products in small batches because we believe that what you put in your body is just as important as what you put on your body. We are where self-care meets soul care, and our job is to illuminate the outer you while loving and elevating the inner you!
Tell us about yourself
My Granny, aka Honey, is how we got started. When I was little, she showed me how to create from scratch. She was a God-fearing woman and an herbalist who produced formulations that took care of women who suffered trauma from sexual abuse, pregnancy loss, and other womb issues. While caring for those women, she would speak life into them with affirming words of who God says they are - valued, loved, bold, beautiful, triumphant, victorious, and so much more! Our business is created in faith and inspired by legacy.
Over the years, I suffered multiple pregnancy losses, resulting in feelings of unworthiness, undervalued, and unloved. After being down on myself, I finally remembered my Granny's words - reminding me who I was. Once I put myself back together, I realized my purpose was greater than mine. It is for me to continue impacting these women through the Word of God with a corresponding affirmation on each jar and bottle. In addition to those affirmations, each formula was created to relax, repair, soothe and/or restore you from a long day.
What motivates me is when I get the product reviews saying, "my baby's skin was horrible, and everything I tried before I found Lamb and Honey didn't work," or when someone sends me a DM that says, "I have never experienced such relaxation from an oil or butter that wasn't greasy! I'm not sure how you do it, but I am in love - not to mention the love note written on the side of the bottle!" It's these types of messages/reviews that keep us going! We are out here impacting lives, one jar and bottle at a time, and we love it!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
We rebranded and relaunched in the middle of a pandemic and survived. We are still standing and never missed a beat! We are super thankful and still pressing forward!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Everything! LOL.
But if I had to mention one thing, make sure you maintain good records, paperwork, and books. And for the bonus round, make sure that you prioritize your voice over everyone else. It's your business, and you know what you want.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
If you are starting a business:
- Dig deep. Make sure you really want to run a business because it's bigger than just making money. You are impacting lives.
- People are always watching even when you don't think they are. Always have on your best hat.
- Make sure your paperwork is done correctly and submitted on time.
If you are running and wanting to grow your business:
- Find a mentor. Make sure to assess the fruit their connected to, not just what you see they have; it will lend insight into how well they guide their mentees.
- Become a disciplined learner. Ask all the questions. Read and read some more.
- Find a community of like-minded people that will cheer you on even when you can't cheer for yourself.
