What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am in the business of bringing joy to people's lives by offering a flavourful product that makes you forget all your worries! We have turned cheesecake haters into cheesecake lovers since 2017! I believe that good quality ingredients lead to a stellar food experience!
Tell us about yourself
I was seven months pregnant with my third daughter, and I was craving cheesecake. Sounds boring, right? Well, I ventured out looking for one that satisfied my cravings, and nothing met up to my expectations! So, I started making my own! After eating full cheesecakes by myself, week after week, I felt that I needed to ease up on my cheesecake consumption and share it with others. The reactions I received were out of this world! I was constantly bombarded by family and friends to make my "like nothing I've ever tried before" cheesecake. Voila! A cheesecake business was born!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is creating a community around my business. Burlington has been so good to me, and we truly feel like we are part of a large family. From our wonderful staff to our incredibly supportive customers, there is a true sense of belonging at Laila's Cheesecake!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Balance! Finding the right balance between family and work-life has been the biggest challenge. These are two things that I love immensely, and I struggle to dedicate the time to both of them equally!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Take one thing and focus on that one thing; when you do that one thing really well, you become a leader in it. You set the bar for its excellence! People will think of you for that one thing, and if you are really good at it, they will come to you!
