Incendiary, Artisan, and Natural - La Pirata Brewing

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Aran Leon, founder of La Pirata Brewing, located in Barcelona, Spain.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We at La Pirata brew incendiary craft beer from the heart of Catalonia (Spain). We're focused on both new customers with our core range of beers and geek craft beer consumers with more complex and innovative beers.

Tell us about yourself

I'm the founder and CEO of the company. I started homebrewing almost 20 years ago, and what started as a hobby, step by step developed into a serious business. In 2012 I started professionally, and in 2015 we opened our brewery in Suria. I love beer, and I really enjoy designing new recipes innovating, and looking for new flavours and aromas to this amazing fermented beverage.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Surely COVID-19 has been a litmus test for the company. Overcoming the harsh restrictions to the HORECA has undoubtedly been the greatest achievement!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

We are a small company, and as such, we all know each other and their families. Sometimes you have to fire someone, and without a doubt, it is the worst time to be the owner.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

If you like your team, take care of them.

Have a look at your sustainability (social and environmental).

Focus on quality.
