Tell us about yourself
When my mother was diagnosed with dementia I moved back home to Vancouver in 2016 after having lived in Europe for 25 years (and 2 years in Singapore before that). There were certain things I missed and couldn’t find the equivalent here so I just started making them myself. Those were the canelés. It took about 2 years to perfect them and during that time I guess I got a few if my friends hooked too! I love sharing the foods and flavours I grew to love and seeing people feel the same!!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Surviving my first year and reading what Neal McLennan wrote in Van Mag when he selected La Bise as one of his favourite bakeries. I actually thought there had been mistake.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Making a profit!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Be prepared to work harder than you ever imagined you could or would, dream big, and build a strong team that you can depend on.
