What's your business, and who are your customers?
I founded kyoord with the mission to educate consumers about the health benefits of high-phenolic olive oil, and to make the best quality, healthiest olive oils available in the market. Our customers are consumers that care about what they eat, appreciate quality, freshness, and integrity, and want to live a healthier, balanced life.
Tell us about yourself
I have a doctorate in molecular biology, and I used to be a cancer researcher. My research centered on oleocanthal - an anti-inflammatory molecule found in olive oil. At kyoord, we carry olive oils that are high in oleocanthal and therefore are healthier than other olive oils. Oleocanthal also imparts a very specific robust, peppery flavor to olive oil, and real connoisseurs know to expect its signature "bite" when tasting olive oil. I love getting an email from our customers telling us how switching to our olive oil has improved their health and well-being!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I am proud that we introduced a new category into the market and now can see other companies measuring and advertising the polyphenol content of their oil. This was not the case when I started the business three years ago.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
I rarely take a real vacation. Can't afford to ignore the business needs.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Play to your strength and hire help to complement the areas of your weakness.
- Choose something you truly believe in and are passionate about (making money should NOT be a passion.
- Give the best customer service possible.
