Your Escape From the Mundane - Kundala Massage and Bodywork

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Camilla Chiniquy, owner and founder of Kundala Massage and Bodywork, located in Millcreek, UT, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Kundala Massage and Bodywork is a holistic business practice that focuses on the Kundala Massage modality to alleviate muscle discomfort and energetic ailments. Kundala Massage is a unique style of massage that uses the massage therapist's legs as additional massage tools while syncing up music to the movement for a performative, trance-like massage. Our customers like the unique style of this massage as it heals not only the physical discomforts of muscle tightness and pain but also addresses the psychological and energetic needs of touch.

Tell us about yourself

My name is Camilla Chiniquy. I am a licensed massage therapist with ten years of experience in multiple modalities of massage. At the beginning of my massage career, I noticed the impactful effect music had on my clients. I was a dancer at the time, and flowing to music was second nature, so I started experimenting with matching my massage movements to the music in a choreographed way. Over the years, I've found that this approach is incredibly effective in alleviating the discomfort of the mind and body. What motivates me each day to continue to do what I do, is the healing and transformative effect my craft has on my clients' lives and well-being. When they share the importance my work has had on their lives, it validates all the time and effort I've put into this and encourages me to expand and push to help even more people on a wider scale.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner has been my ability to create this new style of massage from scratch, then develop a training program that teaches other healers how to do it so it can be replicated. Achieving this took many years of diligent hard work, commitment, repetition, and consistency.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is the pressure to improve and expand continually. While this is objectively a good thing, it can be hard-ons you to persistently think of ways to make it better. Carving out time for yourself to validate the work you have done and being grateful for the current success you have is essential, so you don't get caught in the never satisfied. I could always be the better mindset that some business owners get trapped in. In each step of the process, it's important to not be hard on yourself, to love and be grateful for the success or lessons you have learned from, and not get addicted to the needing to be perfect or needing more and more.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

The tips I would give someone looking to start, run and grow a business today would be to:

  1. Pick a business venture you enjoy. Then it will feel less like work and will encourage you, lift you up and give you more energy versus depleting it. Ask yourself, what would you enjoy putting your energy into every day?
  2. Do your research. Get out a pen and notepad and just google and Youtube everything to do with your business idea. Write everything down, then look back on all your information and see what calls to you so you can see where your excitement and attention go.
  3. Continually maintain an abundance mindset. When investing or trying to get a business off the ground, there is no room for continual feelings of doubt or fear. A little amount of that is normal and healthy, but it's important to really trust, love, and fully believe in your idea and abilities and avoid a scarcity mindset at all costs. You must truly believe that you will be successful and that you will thrive. Invest in time meditating and journaling on any fears or self-limiting beliefs you may have, and learn to transmute those feelings into feelings of success, self-worth, love, and trust to manifest your dream into reality.
