Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jodi Gerrish, Owner of Kula Yoga, located in Glendale, AZ, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Kula Yoga is a yoga studio in Glendale, AZ offering an array of classes for all levels of students, from beginner to advanced.
Tell us about yourself
I discovered yoga as a way to keep my body healthy and wanted to share it with others not only for physical support but also for the inner work this practice promotes. My background is in social work, and I earned my master's degree, followed by my first yoga certification for grief and bereavement. After getting my 200-hr certification, I went on to complete additional training in Restorative, Yoga Nidra, Yoga Shred, Trauma Informed, and Chair Yoga. Providing a safe space for people to practice yoga and learn about themselves is what motivates me to keep teaching yoga and improving the studio however I can.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner comes in the form of students' responses after their classes and how much they appreciate the welcoming and inclusive nature of the studio that encourages them to keep showing up.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is learning along the way. Figuring out how to manage the business and keep the patrons happy and supported is very important to me, and I value the feedback and suggestions that can lift the studio up.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Surround yourself with like-minded people. If there is a business or business owner that motivates you or inspires you, talk to them and learn from them.
- Allow yourself to ask for help and assistance; just because it is YOUR business doesn't mean you have to do every on your own.
- Make time for yourself - not just your business. Self-care and spending time with family or just away from work can help refill your cup so that you have the energy to pour into your business.
