Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Khadijah Fielder, Founder of KTEDITZ, located in Las Cruces, NM, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
KTEDITZ is a service-based Virtual Assistant agency that specializes in creating content. We are here to help everyday creative and small business owners push their dreams forward. Your audience needs to hear your message! We do the time-consuming work so you can get your voice heard more frequently.
We both know creating content is very time-consuming. Finding time to balance providing quality content and running the back end can be a lot to juggle. We can relieve some stress so you can create more and reclaim your time. We also provide other admin services and digital products.
Tell us about yourself
In 2008, I began suffering from seizures which later snowballed into a plethora of other chronic illnesses that kept me from living a normal life. I knew for several years that I wouldn't be able to work a "normal job." I just had to figure out exactly what I wanted to do. In 2017, I graduated from college with a Bachelor's degree in Digital Filmmaking. I was really passionate about YouTube and video editing. I was great at it, and I wasn't expected to be there to complete the work physically. So, I decided to build a business around video editing for small content creators, mainly on YouTube, which has now expanded to help other small business owners with their content.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is stepping out of my comfort zones and doing things that I love on a daily basis. As an introvert, it can be difficult for me to socialize in public spaces. I've learned to push past my comfort zones and put myself out there more, resulting in getting clients I didn't feel worthy of at the time. Because of this, I am rewarded with being creative and working from anywhere in the world.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Up to this point, the hardest part of being a business owner is doing it solo. I have to wear many hats and play many roles within my business, which can get very tiring. In 2023, I am looking to finally be able to outsource some help.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Discipline over motivation. You may not always feel motivated to keep up with the everyday workload of running a business, but you must stay disciplined and do things even when you don't "feel" like it.
- Start even before you feel "ready ."The hardest part of beginning any new venture is just getting started. You can do all the research and planning and be a self-proclaimed perfectionist, but you can't get the ball rolling until you just start. You can learn from your early mistakes and grow from there.
- This goes without saying but always have a business plan. Have a clear foundation for your business model, but be willing to stay open-minded and expand from that original plan.
