What's your business, and who are your customers?

KT Winery is a winery that produces and bottles our wine in Napa, CA. We are 100% minority women-owned and operated. All of our products are cultivated by our team, from the name, the label to the taste of the wine. We really wanted to make sure we took it from juice to the final product.

Tell us about yourself

I have loved the industry for years. I was an event planner and had the opportunity to work with big players like Tito’s, Jack Daniels, and more which made me fall in love with the industry. As I got older and started entertaining, I loved what wine could do. It breaks down barriers between cultures, different demographics and brings people together. That inspired me to bring wine differently to the space. I’m motivated by breaking barriers both culturally and for women of color. I want people to experience what they would if they were in my home.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Launching our first wine! It was a huge undertaking and such a special moment.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The time commitment. Truly working around the clock and being willing to sacrifice fun for the dream.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be sure you want to be in business. It’s a clickbaity thing right now but that doesn’t mean you have to do it.
  2. Do your research on your industry, the product or service you want to offer, and really know your stuff.
  3. Trust your gut. 99% of the time, it’s right.
