Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kristy Nilsson, an Elite Team Builder and Leadership Coach based in Rota, Spain.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am an elite team builder and leadership coach. I help business leaders (founders or those in leadership positions) develop their teams so that they and the business can thrive regardless of outside circumstances. My customers are leaders who know there is room for improvement within their team but aren't sure what the problems are or where to start. They are the leaders who are ready to embrace the future of how businesses and teams will work and be supported.

Tell us about yourself

I served in the military for many years. When I left, I got standard corporate jobs and worked for standard corporate leaders. I kept seeing patterns of unhappy team members, toxic work environments, and people saying, "Oh, that's just the way it is." I wasn't happy with that answer, so I decided to use my knowledge and experience to show people there is a better way to lead and that they can build a team that will succeed at an elite level. that they can have a culture of excellence without sacrificing profits or productivity.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment has been writing a book. To sit down and write 12 chapters of knowledge and share my story has been a game changer. It allowed me to speak with more confidence and open the doors to companies such as FedEx in the UK, who turned to me for team-building guidance.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Everything is on you. Your motivation, your deadlines, your content It all has to start with you. If you are having a rough week, everything suffers.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't force anything. You'll be happier and more successful when you follow your gut.
  2. "Comparison is the thief of joy." Constantly remind yourself that social media is an overly edited screenshot of glimpses of people's lives and successes. Stop looking and stop comparing. Only focus on yourself and your goals.
  3. Give yourself grace. Don't beat yourself up if something doesn't work out the way you wanted it to or if you feel yourself stumbling. Take a breath, remember what you're working towards, and carry on when you're ready.
