West U Laser - Kristin Raiford

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kristin Raiford, Owner of West U Laser, located in Houston, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

West U Laser is a laser hair removal boutique that specializes in treating all skin tones/types safely and efficiently. Treatments provide permanent hair reduction that can be done on both the face and body. I'm confident in saying my clients know West U Laser is a safe space. Sessions can be extremely personal, and I pride myself on discretion, comfort, and relatability. It's just you & I behind those closed doors, hence West U Laser's boutique-style approach. Think therapy session but with a reward at the end…smooth skin. Who doesn't want that?

Tell us about yourself

I started working in the Aesthetics industry over 17 years ago. I developed an interest in this industry after witnessing how it can empower both men and women of all ages and races to embrace their beauty. Laser hair removal became such a growing trend, and I was fortunate enough to train and work with some of the best professionals in Houston. In my career, I've got to experience clients transform into these radiant, confident beings by simply being able to check off one insecurity. I'm fulfilled not only by the results-driven satisfaction my customers feel but also by getting to form personal & professional relationships with them. With that, I've been able to turn my knowledge and interest into a passion.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I'd have to say my biggest accomplishment as a business owner would be my client relationships. Opening a business is stressful on its own, much less opening a business during a pandemic. Having the good fortune to build a loyal and supportive client base has made the transition into entrepreneurship a successful and rewarding journey.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest parts of being a business owner is learning how to make time for yourself as well. We want to be successful, so it's always a "Go go go" attitude, and at times our own needs can get put on the back burner. Learning that it's ok to say no sometimes can be challenging but providing the best customer service is always a top priority; you must be able to find a healthy balance.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Stay organized.
  2. There will never be a "perfect" time to start...so just do it.
  3. Stay true to YOUR vision.
