Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kris Nikole, CEO of The Arts by Kris, located in Dallas, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

The Arts by Kris consists of photography, choreography, and music. My customers are aspiring music artists and content creators, people who want choreography for an event such as weddings and Quinceaneras, and people who want photography portraits done for any reason, such as birthdays, businesses, etc.

Tell us about yourself

I began my business journey after only doing photography, dance, and music as a hobby. I sing music covers on YouTube and am learning to play different instruments such as piano, bass guitar, and saxophone. I began choreographing Quinceaneras in 2012 and weddings shortly after. Later, I began doing photography using minimalist technology and slowly upgrading to professional-grade equipment. I then decided to use my multi-talents to start the business we all know and love today, The Art by Kris!

We want to encourage aspiring expressive artists to reach their full potential. Soon we will have a studio that will be available to anyone who is ready to start their career as an artist, whether it be through music, dance, or photography.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment so far was building my client list so vastly, which enabled me to invest more into my business just as quickly. I am extremely grateful for all my friends and family who have supported me so far. I couldn't have gotten this far without them.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is being consistent. Social media has become our main source for marketing which is convenient but can also be discouraging at times. There will be several days when you want to give up or take a really long break from everything, but you have to find the motivation to keep going.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Just do it: There may seem like a lot of people are doing what you're doing, but they are not you. You just have to do it; the only thing stopping you is you.
  2. Stay consistent: It's okay to take small breaks, but it's important to get back in the game and press forward.
  3. Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways, acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
