From Misunderstood to Purpose Driven Success - KORE Women

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Summer Watson, Owner of KORE Women, LLC., located in Woodbridge, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I have a coaching and production business. I am an evaluation and empowerment coach, producer, and host of a podcast, a live show, and a producer of live and virtual events. My customers are men and women, individuals, organizations, and entrepreneurs. They are people looking to expand and grow in their personal and professional lives.

Tell us about yourself

Over several years, I worked in the human services field. I worked in the non-profit arena creating and managing programs. I went on to get a master's in Human Services and Community Counseling and a doctorate in Clinical Psychology. I worked for years in the field of clinical psychology, assessing folks in hospitals and connecting clients with resources to support their daily lives. I also taught for various colleges and universities in counseling and psychology. I have also been a military spouse for over 21 years. With all this experience, acquired skills, and having to move and transition frequently, I decided that I wanted to start my own business. So, I did.

Knowing that I am a very hard worker, was willing to put in the hours to build my business, and that I possess a skillset where I know how to develop and manage programs and connect with the community, I jumped right into entrepreneurship and figured out things as I went along. What motivates me each day is connection. The incredible connections I have made along my entrepreneurial journey motivate me. I am really driven, but to have folks around you that are in different stages of entrepreneurship that you can learn from is amazing.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I feel like my biggest accomplishment as a business owner is having the courage to try something different and beyond what I envisioned myself doing for a lifetime. I have studied hard, worked since I was 15 years old, had a vision for myself, and somewhere down the road, decided to try something completely different than what I spent years studying and doing as a profession. I am thrilled I took the opportunity to change my course and try entrepreneurship.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Realizing that you can't do it all alone. That you will need to seek support, such as mentors and support staff to help you accomplish your goals. Entrepreneurship is about community, creating relationships, learning from more experienced business owners, and figuring out a process that works for you and your business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. It's awesome to create and ideate, but to make a business successful takes action.
  2. Know what your values are and how they apply to your business.
  3. Have a list of short-term and long-term goals and identify the objectives that will help you achieve your goals.
