What's your business, and who are your customers?
I teach musical instruments from around the world, especially the African kora, and I address musicians or aspiring musicians.
Tell us about yourself
I started teaching music because sharing my passions is something unstoppable. I started doing this because no one else was doing it for some specific instruments. I continue to do this because I think that any day spent without sharing my knowledge and experience in the most compassionate and free way possible is a largely wasted day.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Receiving interest and gratitude in my business from people all over the world- it's something that fills the heart first rather than the pockets.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Living up to expectations, trying not to disappoint my pupils, continuing to resist, and never giving up, even when things go wrong, and everything goes against you.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Doing what you enjoy/feel you should do, even if everyone tells you it doesn't make sense or won't succeed. You can only be truly successful if you do something you wholeheartedly believe should be done. You have to be yourself and do what you believe in.
- Study and understand marketing because it will give you the practical tools to share your dreams.
- Never stop, both in studying your subject and in the face of difficulties.
