What's your business, and who are your customers?
I own and operate a high-end barbershop in the heart of Ottawa, our beautiful nation’s capital. We offer our services to anyone who wants an elevated grooming experience.
Tell us about yourself
My name is Christopher Lord, and I have had the pleasure of being a barber and working within the hair industry since 2016. I first got my start in the industry shortly after being laid off from a communications job, a blessing in disguise. Being a barber is one of the coolest jobs there is. I have had the opportunity to meet people from every walk of life, from politicians, lawyers, teachers, and doctors to even celebrities! Cutting hair allows me to have fun each and every day while fuelling my creativity. I get great joy in taking care of my clients' grooming needs because everyone leaves with a smile!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment to date has been surviving the Covid 19 pandemic, including being closed for approximately a year. All of this in under five years of operations!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the challenges that come with being a business owner is how demanding your schedule can be. That’s why you have to choose what you love, that way it’ll feel a lot less like work!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Choose something you love and are passionate about.
- Choose something that people need so you’re never out of work.
- Never give up.
