Sell More Books! - Kindlepreneur

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in marketing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dave Chesson, Founder of Kindlepreneur, located in Cheyenne, WY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I run a website called Kindlepreneur and sell two types of software. Atticus and Publisher Rocket. Our primary customers are indie, self-published authors.

Tell us about yourself

I had a career in the Navy and had spent a couple of long stints away from my wife and young kids. I was motivated to start my website and work on it on the side with the goal of creating a full-time income from it, so I could be at home with my family.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

It was the day that my business profits were larger than what I was making, working a full-time stable job.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The ups and downs of running a business. One day (or even one part of the day), you could be on cloud nine and feeling great, and then all of a sudden, there is a problem, and you need to put out a fire. It's a wild ride.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Think of running a business as a skill. Like juggling, you don't just start and immediately start throwing 12 balls in the air. It's a huge learning process.
  2. Try not to compare yourself to another entrepreneur. Everyone is different, and some people hit success at different times. It doesn't mean you are necessarily any greater or lesser than the other. Instead, focus on your business and strategy.
  3. Know what your definition of success is. I've seen too many people chase the dollar and realize that what they were doing to get that dollar wasn't what would make them happy. Know what your definition is of success and ensure your process to it fits that definition.
