Blue Wysteria Coaching and Consulting - Kim Fons

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kim Fons, President, and Founder of Blue Wysteria Coaching and Consulting, located in Cambridge, WI, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

No one wants to feel stuck or like their team is spinning its wheels. I help leaders and organizations identify what is holding them back from high-performing greatness and create a PLAN to get there.

Tell us about yourself

I started in higher education and leadership development. As I worked with top leaders across my state, I realized that understanding all the leadership concepts and practices in the world won't work. Will Not Work. Coaching was the missing link in taking leaders from knowing how to lead to actually being able to do it.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Coaching coaches! Just like doctors make the worst patients, coaches make the worst clients. I was pushed hardest and tested the most as a coach and business consultant while working with a team of coaches trying to start a business together. I not only helped them, but I became so much better during that engagement.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Staying focused on the business of running a business. I started my business because I love what I do, and I want to do it my way. And when I really get going doing what I love, it is so easy to forget to keep up with the marketing and accounting and paperwork.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get comfortable with being imperfect and DO IT ANYWAY. You will never feel "ready" to start. DO IT ANYWAY.
  2. Figure out who your "board of directors" is. I have a group of people in my life that I have recruited to be my support system and my devil's advocate. They hold my feet to the fire, and they push me because they are mentally and emotionally committed to my success.
  3. Ask for advice. Lots and lots of advice. And then be choosy about which you follow.
