Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in branding and marketing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kieva Chris-Amusan, Chief Strategist of Zolt Digital, located in Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I help service-based online entrepreneurs - Coaches, Course Creators, Consultants - who have been struggling to find clients to create a simple high-ticket marketing funnel system that allows them to attract ideal clients and convert them to customers consistently so that they can earn a sustainable income that supports the lifestyle of their dreams. I do this through my funnel, done-for-you agency services, and I also offer consulting services in line with this as well.
Tell us about yourself
Growing up, I always knew I was destined to impact lives in a big way, so I chose to train as a medical doctor because I thought that was the only way. However, I realized two years into my medical training that this path would only hinder me from living life on my terms. I wanted to be able to have a family, spend time with my kids, travel the world and afford the fine things of life without having to worry about money or a cramped schedule!
So in 2016, months after my graduation, armed with nothing but my smartphone, internet access, and a massive dose of blind courage, I took the leap to focus on growing a business of my own. It was scary at first because sometimes I’d be making money, and then sometimes it would be a dry spell with no idea where my next client would come from! It took me several months of training, trial-and-error mixed with sweat and tears, to figure things out. And this is where my love for digital marketing started.
In less than ten months, we were consistently making 5-figures in dollars— and that’s when I knew I had found something more than gold - the ability to set a goal, create an aligned marketing roadmap, hit that goal, and replicate the results over and over. In no time, friends and family started to reach out to me to offer my services for a fee. Fast forward to today, I’ve worked with some of the biggest brands in the world. And I’ve scaled this “solution” into a 7-figure global empire while working from my home office. Now I help other entrepreneurs build their own digital business empires.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I get a lot of satisfaction from knowing that my work secures people’s livelihoods and puts food on tables, either through providing jobs for my team members or based on the ripple effect of the work that we do for our clients. Every time we build a funnel for a client, the client’s business thrives more, and the client’s products can potentially change more lives. It’s a win-win!
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Being a business owner is generally not for the faint-hearted, LOL! One of the hardest things I’ve had to deal with is building the muscles of consistency and innovation. These are traits that ensure that one’s business maintains its cutting edge. With consistency, sometimes it gets boring doing the same thing over and over, but it’s essential to know when to stay put and refine what you think you’ve already mastered. Innovation helps you stay ahead of the competition because when you are doing well, new players will rise to keep you on your toes. And so you must know when to add on new layers that help your business stand out from the crowd.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Know your big why. This will keep you grounded when the going gets tough.
- Cast a vision and write it down. Ensure everyone on your team gets it. Repeat it as many times as you can to ensure you are all on the same page. This is key to building an effective team.
- Surround yourself with people who have a vision similar to yours. If not friends, find a mentor or a community, even if it’s paid. You will need encouragement on the blue days, and you will need people who can celebrate your victories with you.
