What's your business, and who are your customers?
Our business is Kids Food Fight, the 4-week healthy food game that teaches kids about nutrition and empowers them to make their own healthy food choices every day.
Tell us about yourself
My partner, Melanie, a Functional Medicine Practitioner, and Nutritionist, invited me to partner with her to bring her 4-week healthy food challenge to kids and families. I have an elementary school-aged daughter, and following the pandemic, I was motivated to help my family make better food choices. Bringing KFF to life has helped me educate and empower my own family.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Our biggest accomplishment so far is in the form of feedback we receive from parents of kids who play our game. It often comes much later, after the game is over when we hear of kids recognizing healthy fruits and vegetables as "Kids Food Fight approved" and unhealthy foods as "NOT Kids Food Fight approved."
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things as a business owner is balancing the rest of my life with working on the business. There are a million things I could do for KFF, and I need to respect my own work/life boundaries so I will stop working to spend time with and care for my family.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Bootstrap for as long as you can.
- Mindfully add new employees and vendors.
- Know that it's a rollercoaster ride. There will be Ups and Downs. When you're Down, keep the faith in your dream, and you will rise again and recover.
