Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health & wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Mila Teshler, Owner of KidLink Therapy, located in Lexington, MA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Kidlink Therapy is a concierge pediatric occupational therapy practice that provides sensory integration therapy to neuro-diverse children in the Boston area. We specialize in sensory integration therapy for children with sensory processing disorders, autism, developmental delay, anxiety, ADHD, and more.
We believe that every child deserves to live a life free from struggles, who will feel confident and happy within their abilities. Our goal is to make the therapy sessions fun and engaging while doing our best to adapt quickly to the unique needs of a child. Not your cookie-cutter clinic - we serve families through our playful, collaborative, result-driven care.
Tell us about yourself
A Moldovan immigrant, I came to this country thirty years ago. Everything was new and exciting, but the culture shock was real. I no longer needed to wear uniforms, go to school six days per week, and follow a script narrated by the government. For the first time, I experienced freedom. And it tasted so good! This desire for liberty fuels me to stay and be an entrepreneur. No matter my difficulties or struggles, I know I will always find a way.
The reason behind opening up KidLink Therapy is simple - as a therapist with 20 years of experience, I see myself as a catalyst for positive change. I enjoy play, education, and growth. Bringing a positive difference to a child's life and a family brings me tremendous joy. It motivates me to continue to enrich my skillset and grow as a business owner and a clinician.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is improving the lives of more than 1,000 families in the area.
Providing care, comfort, and security to those in need and training other clinicians to carry the torch lights up my heart. Pulling the practice through tumultuous COVID times, preserving jobs, and supporting families made me a more decisive leader and a more confident entrepreneur.
I'm proud of my team for sticking together through thick and thin, being there for one another during hard times, and ensuring that our clients always have access to quality care, even when it wasn't easy to get it elsewhere.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
As a business owner, I wear many different hats. I love the process of therapy and building a business, but it can be exhausting at times. Dealing with uncertainty requires good planning skills and anticipation, which can be strenuous for a business owner. Having a good team around me has been very beneficial.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Bring actual values to your customers; do not be afraid to share your expertise.
- Set up systems. Systems are your friends.
- Know who you serve and talk to your customers in a way they can relate.
