The Hold Your Hand and Kick Your Ass Business Coach - KSA
Interested in starting your entrepreneurial journey in business coaching, but not sure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tammy Johnston of KSA Business based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
What's your business and who are your customers?
I am the Hold Your Hand and Kick Your Ass Business Coach. I work with Solopreneurs to teach them the foundational business skills they need to first survive and then thrive.
Tell us about yourself
I LOVE business when it is done right (honestly, ethically, and morally) and it breaks my heart when so many great businesses (in terms of products or services) die because they do not have the basic business skills (marketing, financials, advisory team, and system) to survive.
We NEED good businesses to look after our families, our communities, and our economy.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Surviving for more than 20 years. I have created and taught courses, helped hundreds of small businesses do a better job, and raised a family along the way.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Having to learn everything from scratch. Business is not taught in school and even if you take business courses (in high school, college, or university) they only scratch the surface. There are tons of resources, but they are not connected and only look after one specific area. There is a gigantic need for foundational business learning.
What are the top 3 tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
1. Kaizen (constant and never-ending improvement). Your DAILY habits set you up for success or failure. Choose wisely.
2. Surround yourself with people that you can learn from and that can support you on your journey (knowledge, connections, emotional support). People that are business owners not broke ass family and friends.
3. Pay attention to your financials. The numbers tell you so many valuable stories that help you build your business, but you have to listen and learn. Avoidance is death.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Planning saves time, money, and grief.
