What's your business, and who are your customers?

Khamu Solutions is a leading provider of Point of Sale Solutions, Online Ordering Platforms, Website Hosting, and Digital Signage. We have customers from small coffee shops to baseball stadiums throughout the country.

Tell us about yourself

In 2002 I opened a Sports Pub in Boise, Idaho, using a homegrown Point of Sale Solution that was built on taking orders at the table with handheld tablets. One day the General Manager of the local minor league baseball team came in for lunch and loved the idea of taking orders in the seats, and that is how Khamu Solutions started and still thrives today.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Never giving up when I had every reason to. Being an independent business owner is very difficult at times, both emotionally and financially, and that leads to some tough times and decisions.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Second-guessing yourself. When you are trying to grow your business, so many quick decisions need to be made that it is easy to second-guess oneself. As time went on, I learned to trust my gut more; although I still made a slew of mistakes, I was able to handle those better.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure you have enough capital. You can never have enough.
  2. Show up early and stay late. Set the tone.
  3. Learn about Stoicism if you don't already know. Problems are a constant, and how you deal with them is everything.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

There are no hidden secrets. Write a solid business plan. Work hard but make sure you still leave time for yourself, and above all, have fun doing it.
