Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kevin Parenteau, Founder of Asana at Home Online Yoga Inc, located in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is Asana at Home Online Yoga. I provide online yoga classes and yoga teacher training. My teachers are from all over the globe, reaching customers wherever they are. My customers are those who don't have a traditional studio nearby or prefer doing yoga in the comfort of their homes. Further, through my platform, people worldwide can access some of the top yoga teacher trainers.

Tell us about yourself

During the early stages of the covid pandemic, I started teaching yoga online and saw others doing the same. I thought there could be a business organizing teachers under a virtual yoga studio. I had a design-build construction company keeping me busy then, but the lockdown kept me at home outside of work. So with the newfound time on my hands, I launched Asana at Home Online Yoga.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Several things, but to keep it to a few. First thing, Learning to run a business and a team virtually. Second, launching teacher training was a game changer in the business's growth.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

You believe in what you are doing and stick with it because the early stages can be confidence-crushing and thus affects our motivation.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Decide upfront if you want to be a solopreneur or an entrepreneur.
  2. Be patient; getting traction may take 3 to 5 years, especially if you choose to be an entrepreneur (see first tip).
  3. Figure out your core company values from the beginning and lead with them. This will help you and your people in their actions.
