Accelerate Leadership Excellence - Kevin Jordan
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kevin Jordan, Executive Leadership Coach, Strategic Adviser, and Career Architect, located in Alameda, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a leadership and career transformation coach, strategic adviser, facilitator, and leadership effectiveness trainer. I partner with executives, their leadership teams, and other emerging leaders to achieve peak performance and agility, resulting in sustained engagement and value. I provide strategic coaching and consulting to leaders of companies at all stages of maturity and across industries.
Tell us about yourself
I have an extensive professional career in healthcare, consulting, and coaching, with significant strategic and operational expertise. I have managed, mentored, and coached professionals at all stages of their careers. I coach because I believe in paying forward all of the excellent, thoughtful, and tailored coaching and mentoring I have been so lucky to receive in my life. I have a strong desire to be of service, and coaching allows me to give to you the many wonderful gifts others took the time to give me. I live in the Bay Area, where I enjoy spending time with family and friends, live music, travel, and photography.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My coaching journey started many years ago as an intentionally small, part-time practice. I strategically cultivated my craft and my work during those years while having the great fortune of simultaneously enjoying an extremely rewarding, full-time career in non-profit health care. Several years ago, I made the leap to fully embrace my practice and scale it to the thriving and fulfilling business that I am most fortunate to call my own.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
My greatest challenge and opportunity is navigating the myriad details involved in the business of the business. Evolving into a solopreneur was (and still is) a journey of firsts, and minding the business of the business is a craft all its own. My purpose and drive come from supporting others in their career transition and leadership journeys. The discipline that I have learned and continue to hone is in embracing the fundamentals of business practice and dedicating myself to both sides of this ledger.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Give relentlessly and generously to your clients, network, and community
assume you won't get it back (at least not the way you think you might) - Strategically differentiate, know your minimum viable audience, and know and demand (politely) your value.
- Embrace strategic vulnerability and ask for support where needed; we don't know what we don't know.
- Be serious about your work, be kind to yourself, give yourself grace, and have fun!
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I have the great privilege to do what I love and love what I do. This is not (in the traditional sense) work for me; service is my calling, and coaching is my craft. What a gift!
