Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in branding and marketing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Emmanuel Kesse, Founder of Kesseswebsites & Advertising, located in Columbus, OH, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I build websites, chatbots, and mobile apps for mainly small businesses. I can use Google Sheets and Excel to create a website or software for your business. I also offer advertising services to small businesses, including local SEO and Facebook Advertising.

Tell us about yourself

I got hired by an appliance store to create ads for the business, but my responsibilities got way bigger when I realized the store needed some serious advertising and a better website. Later, I decided to start my own business to offer web and advertising services to other customers. I am motivated because I am a problem-solver. I like to figure out different ways to solve business issues and prevent new ones.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I helped an appliance store double its sales after they followed my guidance. This store was making about $50,000 a month in sales. After the owner finally listened to me, he had record sales, and for the first time in the history of the business, he hit over $100,000 a month in sales and went on to hit over $150,000 in a month.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I think one of my biggest challenges is getting clients to trust me and patiently follow the plan and strategy I have put together for them. There is so much noise out there and so many offers out there that, a lot of times, the good ones are mistaken for bad guys. It's a constant challenge to separate myself from the crowd.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Let your small business be about what you love to do or something you are passionate about.
  2. Be persistent and consistent in what you do. It can take some time to get to the top.
  3. Know your value and see to it that your clients see a difference in business growth so that when it comes time to get paid, your clients/customers will happily write you that check.
