Optimized For The Athlete - Kensui
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Remy Mock, Founder of Kensui, located in Sheridan, WY, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Most people struggle to get fit. We invent innovative equipment that improves workouts so people can get their dream body.
Tell us about yourself
I've always had a passion for fitness, engineering, and entrepreneurship. So Kensui feels like something I was born to do. One day, after being frustrated by the sandbag weight vest, I had an idea for an improved design and decided to take action and create the product myself. Luckily, when you love what you do, you don't need motivation. I'm fortunate that I love what I do.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Getting 1000 5-star reviews and having Wiz Khalifa wear our product.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest part is usually the beginning when you're not sure whether you will succeed. When building a business, it's always going to be harder than you expect. There will be a lot of setbacks you won't anticipate. Once you have a successful business, the next challenge is to keep the business alive by staying ahead of the curve. "The only constant changes." The competition is always improving, and if your business doesn't evolve, it will die.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Find what makes you unique. Ideal you want to try to find something you and only you can do, or at a minimum, something only a few people can do.
- Being an entrepreneur can be hard and lonely. Surround yourself with other hard-working, ambitious entrepreneurs and support each other. c) When you start becoming successful. Don't get cocky. Even billion-dollar businesses can crash (Snapchat, Blockbuster). Just because you made $1000 today doesn't mean you can live the life of someone making $365,000 a year.
- Don't waste the income on silly material goods, as you never know when a rainy day will come. Either save the profits or re-invest them into the business.
