Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ken Coscia, training director of The Silva Method of Boston, Chicago & Connecticut, located in Farmington, CT, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Personal development and live seminars with a focus on intuition training.

Tell us about yourself

I was a struggling engineering student at Boston university with no life direction. I attended the Silvamethod course in 1971, and by using the tools, I became an A student, even while I was working full-time teaching in the evenings and on the weekends for the Silvamethod. My mom at first, was very skeptical, and suffered from chronic asthma and arthritis later attended the coursework and stopped having asthma attacks and no longer suffered from arthritis. For the first time in my life, I became focused and directed with a deep sense of being on a mission. I’m going into my 52 years doing this work, and it is the people who attend and transform their lives who motivate me to continue and inspire me deeply.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I would say that my biggest accomplishment is loving what I do, traveling the world to meet people from different cultures, enjoying the satisfaction of helping people to take command of their lives, and I get paid on top of that.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The biggest challenge for me has been to manage my time, so I had to adapt effectively to the constant changes in how we do business. It takes time, attention, and help to keep up with tax laws, technology changes, and marketing.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do your due diligence. Have a growth mindset so that you’re continuously learning.
  2. Show up, let your voice be heard, and be consistent!
  3. Surround yourself with like-minded people whom you can support and grow with. Hire a mentor.
