Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kelly Ann Vass, Founder of Kelly Ann Vass Akashic Coaching Inc., located in Sherwood Park, AB, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business supports spiritual health, and where it connects with energetic, physical, mental, and emotional health. I support people in learning to love their humanity and their divinity. Wholeness + Oneness + Grace =LOVE. I love teaching people how to connect consciously to their akashic records, their soul's records so that their lives can be filled with more ease. The akashic records are healing energy and an energetic library that can make this soul experience as a human on planet earth easier.
Tell us about yourself
At five years old, I knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wanted to be a priest. My first message of not good enough came from the church and my parents: "you can't; you are a girl." What I really wanted to be was a teacher and student of love and grace. It was a long and painful road to get here. I became a people pleaser and perfectionist while seeking this trajectory. I burned out over and over again. My soul was calling me all along, I just did not have a point of reference, and my mind was noisier than my heart. Even though my parents were both entrepreneurs, I did not know the meaning of the word. Those closest to me just kept telling me that I was not one. In 2011 my need to recover from people-pleasing and perfectionism and a lifetime of burnout after burnout led me to Shawna Campbell, my life coach. In 2014 I went to Heal Your Life® training for self-growth and came back on purpose. I started teaching workshops on the philosophies of Louise Hay. A year later, I became a life coach. I learned to listen to my higher self and soul, and it brought me to the akashic records in 2017. One of my teachers, Natasha Mott, and I co-created a 12-week program called The Octopus Method: Consciously Creating Balance, Growth, and Sustainability in Your Business and Life.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I am really proud of the service I give my clients. I love celebrating them and supporting them. People are so inspiring! When I look back, I am truly in awe of the journey. My favorite thing in the whole world is a meaningful conversation, and I get to move through this lifetime having so many meaningful communications.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Accounting is the hardest thing for me being a business owner. I love creating clients. I love coaching. I love teaching and training and reading akashic records. It has been really challenging learning to schedule accounting and admin into work hours and sticking to the schedule. It is hard for me not to put a client into my business system time. Incorporating two businesses last year has created more discipline, especially since I am determined to prevent burnout moving forward. It is all about healthy boundaries.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- I would actually invite them to participate in The Octopus Method to support them in creating a soul-aligned foundation for their business (talk about shameless self-promotion). It really has been so valuable to me as an entrepreneur.
- We spend as much time creating clients as servicing clients as maintaining clients. Hop on a call and meet the person taking the time to message you on social media.
- If I was starting again, I would read Profit First by Mike Michalowicz and implement from the beginning, keep your expenses less than 30%, and take an income from the beginning. Expenses do not serve us as write-offs unless we are really profitable.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I am so grateful that after I exited the family business succession plan, a beautiful earth angel bookkeeper said to me, "Kelly Ann, you are truly an entrepreneur!" I am even more grateful that I received her words. It allowed me to attract other people like me. When we love and accept who we are, we love and accept the support and guidance available to us. Love and Grace!
