Kiss Frustration Goodbye - Keep It Simple Strategies

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jamie Gilleland, Founder and CEO of Keep It Simple Strategies, located in Statesboro, GA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I've created and built two businesses, MiSyte and Keep It Simple Strategies; the former is a full-service digital marketing agency, while the latter is a coaching and training business that focuses on teaching entrepreneurs how to use automation, systems, and processes to move them from frustration to freedom.

Tell us about yourself

I've been involved in technology for my entire career, but I really came into my own as a designer and CRM specialist in the last two decades. It was, ironically, tragedy that brought me into this business, and that same need now drives my passion for showing others how to avoid the missteps I made. In the end? My motivation comes from my intense desire to share how "easy" it is to not only preserve your business but enhance your overall quality of life with truly simple systems and processes.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment "should" be 12x'ing my business when I first began actively using the systems I now teach but in reality? My biggest accomplishment is having helped hundreds of other entrepreneurs to achieve these same kinds of results.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Without a doubt - and this isn't just my take on it, hundreds of my own clients and even my friend Michael E. Gerber (Author of The E-Myth) agrees the real challenges come from NOT ever taking the time to create systems to build processes, and to clearly define what your work is. When a business owner refuses to make time for themselves, they immediately lose money and freedom, which is really why they opened their business in the first place. Today, I'm far better at defining my time and delegating or automating my tasks, so the amount of time I can spend with my family, on my health, or simply pursuing my passions is far more than I ever thought possible.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Begin with the end in mind.
  2. Document the journey every step of the way.
  3. Get data - even the seemingly innocuous or obscure pieces can often provide huge insight and value into where you should be developing your business.
