What's your business, and who are your customers?
The name of my business is Keen Kosmetics. My customers are men and women who want to embrace and enhance their natural beauty.
Tell us about yourself
I’m 24 years old. I started my business at 22. I never thought of myself as an entrepreneur, but I began to research, and I realized that although there are 100, maybe even thousands of companies in the beauty industry, there was still a place for mine. With the age of social media, a lot of people use beauty products like anti-aging creams, bleaching creams, and many more makeup products to make themselves meet societal norms, but I wanted my business to be about teaching men and women to embrace their God-given beauty despite what society says. While I’ve wanted to quit plenty of times, that is what keeps me motivated.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner would be being able to teach other people how to do makeup techniques that are practical and, most of all, make them feel beautiful.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is missing out on certain events with family. Being a business owner, especially a small business owner, means that you have to make certain sacrifices so that your business will flourish. It’s hard to find people who understand and support that.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Just do it! The circumstances will never be ideal or “perfect.”
- Be consistent. Consistency will go a VERY long way.
- Have fun. Do something you love, and it won’t feel monotonous.
