Phenomenal Writing Connects With Customers - KCR Copywriting

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kristen Gonzales, Founder of KCR Copywriting LLC, located in Aurora, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I own KCR Copywriting LLC and write copy for small and large businesses. I write anything from social media posts to blogs, email funnels, and content promoting products and services. My customers include fitness, technology, nails, coffee, photography, waxing, and more.

Tell us about yourself

I wanted to be a writer for as long as I can remember. College earned me an English degree and a job in the defense industry, barely using my major. Writing emails counts, right? As life brought about some changes, I finally pursued a career in writing. I love beautiful, fun, and engaging words that elicit emotions. It makes me happy to use my expertise to build excitement for a brand. Seeing a business owner read my writing and get excited about their product or service is like winning the lottery!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Seeing my name under a piece of published content is my biggest accomplishment. It is something I dreamed of my whole life, and it feels like I'm finally doing what I was meant to do. I see my words in marketing daily, which makes me so proud--like jazz hands proud.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I hate selling my own business. I don't like being pushy, but my job requires me to reach out to businesses to get them to hire me as their writer. I have figured out how to do it in my own way that suits me, but it will never be easy.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

You have to work hard, fight resistance, and give yourself grace. It would be great if customers flowed into your doors, but that doesn't happen without marketing yourself every day and constantly striving to improve. Also, motivation will only take you so far, and then it wanes. Life will throw you all sorts of obstacles that destroy motivation and build resistance. It's that little voice in your head telling you that you can't do something, and it's lying. Fighting that resistance takes determination, and you must remember to stay empowered during those highly resistant moments. Finally, give yourself grace. Not every customer will love you or your business, and that's ok. Learn the lesson, take a deep breath, and learn to let go. Your people are out there.
