Sound Healer and Musician - Kayce Laine
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kayce Laine, Sound Healer and Musician located in Nashville, TN, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a Certified Sound, Crystal, and Reiki Practitioner and offer 1-1 healing experiences as well as group sound baths in and around Nashville and my hometown of Virginia Beach. I also serve as an associate teacher for The International Sound Healing Academy, where I teach and train others to harness the power of sound to heal themselves and their communities at workshops and special events. As one of The Sound Healing Academy's Crystal Singing Bowl Specialists, I also help people purchase their own crystal singing bowls to use in their own healing journeys.
I started down the vibrational healing path after suffering from a creative block with my songwriting, so my whole healing business really started with myself! Once I discovered the amazing effects of these healing modalities that expanded far beyond just allowing for creative flow, I realized that I definitely wasn't the only person who needed this in their lives. My original intent and inspiration for the business were to work with other musicians to help them with their own mental health: from performance anxiety to post-tour recovery. Of course, this original vision has expanded to work with all types of people for a wide array of needs, from corporate wellness for local companies to mental health facilities.
Tell us about yourself
The outermost layer of inspiration for my business was definitely my own creative blocks; however, there was something else that happened around the same time that I started dreaming it up: My mom was taking care of my grandfather, who was suffering from Alzheimer's and, during the time that she was one of his primary caretakers, she developed an auto-immune disease that attacked her heart. The grief and sadness that she was experiencing were literally breaking her heart! It was such a profound example of the mind/body connection, and it further inspired me to explore ways to counteract stress through sound healing. This is something that helps keep me motivated day-to-day!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I don't think there's any one specific thing that has felt like the biggest accomplishment: I'm honestly just grateful that I live in a time and in a place that has supported this business and allowed me to support myself financially! I couldn't do what I do if there wasn't an amazing community of people here in Nashville (and in my hometown), and I just feel so full of gratitude each day for the fact that I'm able to do what I do. Of course, it's always an incredible feeling to sell out a big event or facilitate healing sessions at The Ryman Auditorium :)
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing for me is continuously trusting that The Universe has my back! It has been an adjustment going from an indefinite steady paycheck to having months ahead in the calendar with only a few things booked in them and having faith that things will fill up - which they always do! It's gotten easier with time, but it can still feel scary sometimes!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Trust that if you are truly following your soul's purpose, The Universe will open up for you, and your path will reveal itself. It can feel scary to take the leap and pursue your business, but know that if it's meant to be, it will!
- Don't forget to play! Life gets complicated and can feel SO serious. But we need to prioritize play and fun to be able to serve others fully. We've all heard the notion that we need to fill our cups before we can fill others, and this is so true. If you're someone who gets ideas and inspiration from nature, for example, your "work" could really look like you going on a hike or swimming in the ocean. Don't underestimate the power that playfulness can have on your perspective and, ultimately, your business.
- Don't compare yourself to others! It's so easy, especially with social media, to compare yourself to other people doing similar things that you are trying to do. Trust that there is space for everyone, and the people who need your magic will find you.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Yes! I have also continued to write and record music and have a new indie-pop record coming out on October 28th called "Wake Up, Dreamer." I've been releasing singles from it throughout this whole year, and I'm really excited to share the full thing with everyone! I have also recently released some sound-healing music so if you're curious to know more about my recordings, check out my Spotify page!
