Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Katrina Baccetti, Founder of Katrina Baccetti Yoga and Co-Founder of High Vibe Events & Retreats, located in San Francisco, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is Katrina Baccetti Yoga. I am an E-RYT500 Yoga Instructor, Meditation & Breathwork Instructor, Mindset Coach, Online Educator, and Retreat Leader. I’m based in San Francisco, California, where I work with private clients and teach studio classes.

Over the past year, I started collaborating with other skilled instructors and healers in the wellness industry and co-founded a brand with my partner called High Vibe Events & Retreats. High Vibe Events & Retreats offers soulful and transformative community events, retreats, and experiences that support mind-body wellness and inspire personal growth. Our goal is to create unique wellness experiences worldwide that build community, elevate consciousness, and encourage self-expansion.

Yoga is for everybody. I work with students of all ages, and from all different backgrounds. In general, my students share a common goal of self-improvement and the desire to create a healthy lifestyle that encourages health, happiness, wellness, and vitality in the long term.

Tell us about yourself

I started practicing yoga back in 2013 at a time when I was feeling lost, disconnected, and uncertain about the direction I wanted to take in my life and career. Through yoga, I found new inspiration and began to feel better overall. I knew it was time for me to make a big life change, and in 2016 I quit my office job to complete my first 200-hour teacher training in India. Once I returned back to San Francisco, I knew that it was my calling to share the transformative practice of yoga with my community.

After a year of full-time teaching, I started my own brand— Katrina Baccetti Yoga and began to teach local yoga events and retreats in the San Francisco Bay Area. Since then, I’ve been expanding my network through client referrals, social media, online courses, and more. At the essential level, my primary motivation is to help people live happier and healthier lives that are rooted in unconditional love and in alignment with a deeper purpose. I want to inspire others to discover the healing and transformative benefits of daily yoga, meditation, and breathwork for themselves.

Life in the modern world is complex. The influence of technology, paired with the expectations of modern society, can have detrimental effects on our mental health, physical health, and emotional well-being. Many of us spend our lives stuck in our heads— either ruminating on the past or working to attain some potential reward in the future. When we are constantly focused on the past or potential future, we’re taken out of the present moment— the space where our entire life unfolds.

One of my biggest motivations in teaching yoga is to remind students that the present moment is all we ever have. If we can choose to be here now, life becomes far simpler. We can’t change our past, nor can we control every aspect of our future, and when we try to, we end up feeling depressed, stressed, anxious or just overwhelmed.

Our greatest power lies in finding our presence at the moment. We can always find peace in the present. Through teaching, I hope to remind people that we are the creators of our lives, not the victims of our lives, and we create our personal reality based on where our attention is placed. Knowing this, I feel inspired to serve the community by offering students tools and practices that guide them to master their attention and focus so that they can create a reality that supports their happiness.

Yoga is an essential practice to minimize suffering, and it teaches us to embrace and accept the things that come our way. Life on earth is certainly not always an easy journey, and we all know that. Knowing that this human journey will be full of ups and downs, I hope to offer yoga as a tool that helps us navigate these cycles of life a little more gracefully and with a little more ease.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is seeing that I’m actually helping people feel better through the work that I do. My heart is full! Seeing this transformation happen among my students is incredibly inspiring, and it motivates me to continue sharing this transformative practice with the world.

Another big accomplishment is being able to travel the world and do what I love. This has been a long time goal for me since 2017, and within the past two years, I’ve made this a reality. I’m grateful that my work offers me the freedom to travel and do what I love most. I believe that anybody has the ability to make this a reality for themselves if they know what they love to do and choose to work daily to make it happen.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Managing all the roles of an independent business owner— yoga teacher, online coach, social media manager, web designer, graphic designer, email marketer, photographer/videographer, course creator, plus many more. As of right now, I manage all of these roles independently.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. If you know you want to create something but you aren’t sure how to start— just start, take action, and follow your inspiration. The answers will come to you as you go.
  2. Don’t let the fear of failure hold you back. There is no such thing as failure if you learn from the experience. I can’t count how many times I’ve “failed” on this journey, but each time I did, a potent lesson was revealed.
  3. Do what you love. Time is the most valuable asset we have. Life’s too short to spend your time doing things that don’t resonate. I think everyone on this planet is capable of creating and running a business if that’s what sets their soul on fire. Follow your heart— there’s no other way.
