Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Katrin Muff, Director of The Institute for Business Sustainability, located in Luzern, LU, Switzerland.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a researcher and a teacher. I love creating a space where stakeholders can learn and co-create. I am writing books right now; my latest one, "The Positive Impact Mindset," just came out.

Tell us about yourself

I am a passionate Swiss who loves impossible challenges and has a high level of energy to bring together others to achieve something that matters to the world. The 50plus20 initiative and PositiveImpactRating.org are such examples.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I have started three businesses: a manufacturing plant in Russia, an incubator in the Netherlands, and an academic institution in Switzerland. Daring to start new takes courage and gives energy.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

To focus on your key competencies and to spend the majority of the time on them.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Choose a theme that creates a positive impact on society and the world.
  2. Ensure that you can build on your key competencies and your passion.
  3. Choose your business partners wisely - it is all about the people!
