Wellness + Business - Katie Lynn Lives
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Katie McCarthy, Founder of Katie Lynn Lives LLC, located in Greater Philadelphia, PA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business, "Katie Lynn Lives," began as a personal training brand which evolved to include meditation coaching and eventually mentorship for other online service providers! When I chose my business name, I knew it had to be all-inclusive, not just "fitness," "mindfulness," or "business strategy," because when it comes to building your dream life, all of those elements are requisite. KatieLynnLives.com is where I house all of my offers for women for visionaries, creators, coaches, and entrepreneurs, which include free resources, memberships, and private sessions.
Tell us about yourself
Ever since I was a teenager, I have had that "I'm meant for something extraordinary" feeling that I believe every entrepreneur has. However, my business didn't start out with the intention of being a business, and it started as a way for me to practice my personal growth. I spent 8 months consistently posting fitness tips on my Instagram, and after graduating college and working a job that really wore me down, I realized that it wasn't just a desire, but my life's calling to help people work on their own wellness too. That desire to help people with their health later turned into a burning fire to help women radically transform their lives by using meditation, movement, and marketing to take the action steps to bring their soul purpose into a living reality. Put simply, what motivates me every day is the infinite opportunity for growth in myself and the whole world.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishments as a business owner are serving women and allowing that service to transform my inner world. Whether it was helping a client lose 30 pounds or reaching over 150,000 people on YouTube as I do this article today, there is a real impact happening that makes me so proud to do what I do! I think the biggest accomplishment all entrepreneurs gain is the massive amount of confidence that comes from creating your own path!
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Business is a series of challenges, no matter what field you're in. When you're in business, you come to learn that there are no secrets to instant success. Yes, there are strategy, tools, marketing, sales, branding, and legality that are essential. However, the truth is the hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is consistently showing up, regardless of how deflated you may feel. It's easy to glamorize entrepreneurship when you feel inspired, but all entrepreneurs know that growth happens when you feel like you have fallen on your face, don't know where you're going, but have to keep moving. Eventually, the storm will clear.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Get a mentor. When you're starting, you don't know what you don't know. He or she will help you immensely with implementing strategy, but more importantly, he or she will be there for you to get you're energy right when you are lost in the storm (because you will be at some point).
- Read books. Go to your local library and pick up books on personal development and financial education. Critically analyze everything you read and become your own best resource. Not every coach or financial advisor has your best interest in mind. Take action from an educated place.
- "Failure" is good. "Failure" is also unavoidable. It's really the best way to learn what works for you and your business too. If you're afraid of failing, do it. If you knew you only had to "fail" 20 times before success came your way, you would be looking at every opportunity to put yourself out there and "fail" as quickly as possible. Every great entrepreneur "fails," so go be one of them!
