What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a 32 State licensed Health Insurance Agent and own Katherine Moskal Health Plans. I offer health, dental, vision, and supplemental plans to individuals and families under the age of 65. My specialty is working with small businesses, self-employed, and independent contractors.
I truly enjoy what I do and enjoy meeting new people, learning about them, and helping them with their health insurance needs. My caring approach toward my clients encourages a fuller understanding of their needs, which inevitably leads to a better-tailored product.
What sets me apart is my commitment to my clients. I custom tailor plans to fit my client’s needs while still heeding their budget. I am dedicated to helping clients obtain effective and economic health coverage. I don't consider my job complete until my clients are delighted with and have a thorough grasp of their coverage. Still, life brings changes. I am readily accessible on my cell phone or email to help navigate those developments and answer questions my clients may have.
Tell us about yourself
I attended Metropolitan State University with the goal of becoming an elementary school teacher. Life threw some curve balls, and I wound up meeting some incredible people at USHA in 2020 when I began my career in insurance.
Some random facts about me, I have a Polish nickname, Kasia, and yes, I can speak Polish! I have a son named Carson, who is almost three years old, and I am married to my husband, David. Together we have two dogs, a husky and a golden retriever.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, exploring our great state of CO, getting out, and volunteering. And I am a big foodie, so I LOVE trying new restaurants.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I think being a business owner is a huge accomplishment in itself. However, I definitely am proud of the network of supporters and clients I have gained in just two short years. I am also engaged in helping better the community. I am the volunteer coordinator for my office, where I organize our quarterly charity initiatives.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
I would say the hardest thing about being a business owner is trying to find that healthy work/life balance. Starting up and owning a business is a lot of work, more work than having a 9-5 job. Plus, being in insurance means being available to clients 24/7.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Hone in on your specialty. I think it is better to be an expert in one area than a jack of all trades. I know several business owners that do so many things, making it difficult to refer them.
- Do something that sets yourself apart from the competition. For example, I help my clients with customer service and during claims, whereas many agents out there never answer their phones after signing up clients.
- Sales, Sales, Sales! Focus on getting new clients or selling your product. Some people get hung up on all the small details like business cards, etc., and get buried in expenses with no incoming sales.
