Necessary and Sufficient Coffee - Kate Vrijmoet
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kate Vrijmoet, owner of Necessary and Sufficient Coffee, located in Chicago, IL, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We're a tiny neighborhood, specialty coffee shop, and walk-up window that focuses on community, sustainability, and craft.
Tell us about yourself
My job, as an artist, is to use art to help us make deep connections with ourselves and each other. Coffee shops have long been a place for community connection. When I acquired the space for my art studio, I wanted the storefront to be of use to the community.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
We're proud to be Living Wage for the US Certified and Oceanic Global Blue Action Certified.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Managing my expectations about the ups and downs of running a business has been the hardest part.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Don't be afraid to make mistakes. Be good to the people who work for and with you. Be kind to yourself.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
The cafe began as Placemaking in Art, activating the corner and revitalizing the business district on this block of Wrightwood. I'm so proud to be part of this community.
