What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a transformational eating coach. I help mid-life women stop yo-yo dieting and transform their relationship to food so they can lose the weight that's holding them back from living their most authentic life.
Tell us about yourself
I always wanted to be an entrepreneur, and it took me a long time to discover what I really loved. I always loved to cook, so I started out as a private chef in Los Angeles, working for top fitness guru Tony Horton, the creator of P90X. I also got certified in nutrition and wellness coaching so that I could start to help people move toward plant-based eating in a healthy way while taking care of themselves on a deeper level. Quickly I realized that food was not just the issue. The struggles that people were having went way beyond a meal plan or diet. I started to work with women helping them overcome emotional eating and binge eating, which was a byproduct of dieting and low self-worth. I, too, struggled with these things personally, so as I healed, I was able to help my clients more. I recently started integrating Equine Partnered coaching into my practice, where I partner with horses and my clients to help them heal deeper core trauma and belief systems that keep them stuck in a negative loop.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
That I've been in business since 2007, and my business has continued on even though it has had many faces and gone through the trials and tribulations of the pandemic as well.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Doing it alone, it's very isolating and hard to stay motivated when you have to do all facets of the business on your own.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Hire a business coach so you know HOW to structure your business, hire an assistant even if you think you can't afford one, and be clear on the audience you want to serve and HOW you want to serve them.
