Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kali Patrick, Adult Sleep Coach, Author & Speaker, based in Waltham, MA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a sleep and well-being coach who works virtually from Boston, MA. I combine health and wellness coaching with therapeutic applications of yoga and meditation to help stressed-out busy professionals reclaim their sleep, energy, and enthusiasm for life. I especially have success with people who struggle with sleep due to stress and over-active minds.

Tell us about yourself

Prior to becoming a sleep and well-being coach, I spent more than two decades working in and managing teams within large and small technology organizations. After personally experiencing insomnia/burnout---and unsuccessfully trying all the traditional methods to get better---I decided to share the flexible, practical, and long-lasting process that finally helped me.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The biggest accomplishment is happening soon! On March 14th, 2023, I'll be releasing a book: "Mastering Your Sleep Puzzle: Your 12-Week Guide to Sleeping Better." The publication of this book will give more people access to the process and allow them to self-coach.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

For me, it's social media. :-o While I thoroughly enjoy public speaking, giving webinars, and making videos---and of course, writing---having a presence on social platforms can take more time than I care to spend. I prefer to have clients find their way to sleep coaching through Google searches, referrals, or word-of-mouth.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Prioritize your health & self-care. Remember that you ARE your business
if you're unwell or barely surviving your days, you're not going to be able to help anyone else. Get refreshing sleep, exercise, eat well, set healthy boundaries, etc.
  2. Hire someone to do the business-related tasks that you don't want to learn or just don't light you up. Focus on using your strengths to maximize your impact.
  3. Decide on your niche early. Your business will likely evolve, so it doesn't mean you're locked into anything. However, picking one area frees you from having to handle too many things at once.
