Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in marketing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kaleigh Wiese, Brand Educator, Speaker, Consultant & Designer, located in Austin, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I work with small business owners in the event and wedding industry. I help them reach their potential in making a profit on their passion with consulting, business audits, logos, and web development services.

Tell us about yourself

I have been working with small businesses for 18 years. Very young, I saw the need for small creative businesses to have the information that Fortune 500 companies have to resonate with their clients. Small businesses don't typically have the same resources as large funded companies, but we all can work smarter, not harder, with the right understanding and tools!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I am so honored to have been a part of thousands of businesses success stories. Being able to share my expertise and help others grow is why I do what I do.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about being a small business owner is creating boundaries and not losing sight of your own needs when clients typically come first. It is important to put a pulse on your own changing needs as your life changes and adapt to charging more as you continue to become more of an expert yourself.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Before you do anything, you need to know what you are serving. The more niche, the more profitable you'll be because you can truly market to them on an emotional level. You can't build a service and product and just assume people will come.
  2. Know your worth and expenses. If you have had a $30hr job, understand you need to make much more than $30 an hour as a business owner. Operations need to be covered, cost of goods, and having good savings to give you options and prevent financial stress. Spend some time thinking about what your time is worth.
  3. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there before it's perfect. You will learn so much from your clients about the needs that they have and can adapt a viral product or service that meets their needs. That is how you will grow the fastest!
