Corporate Wellness Provider - Kaiser Medical Management
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lenore Gregson, owner of Kaiser Medical Management, located in San Antonio, TX, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
KMM is a corporate wellness provider! We take the health and fitness industry to the company directly, from onsite bloodwork, onsite flu shot clinic, onsite health and wellness fairs, onsite corporate wellness lectures, onsite vitamin shot clinics, onsite covid testing, onsite fitness programs, and so much more. Our customers are human resource management, benefits managers, corporate insurance brokers, and insurance companies. Eleven years ago, I added the fitness element to the programs since I've been a certified personal trainer, fitness instructor, and a professional Women's Physique competitor, along with being certified in weight management and nutrition.
Tell us about yourself
KMM has been around for over 28-years. I've always been in fitness. I was married to a doctor who had just opened his practice. I started marketing his services to companies through wellness lectures. During the course, more services were asked, and KMM not only expanded in services but in cities covered. I love what I do, and I don't see it as work! I've seen lives saved from simple health screenings conducted onsite. I've witnessed individuals change physically and mentally from fit programs I've put them on. It's very fulfilling!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
KMM has received numerous awards throughout the years from the City of San Antonio, the SAPD Blue Santa Program, and school districts throughout San Antonio. It's been recognized in publications and even had a radio show called Kaiser Health Talk. Personally, I have received many awards from San Antonio Fittest Executive, over 29 awards as an IFBB Pro Women's Physique competitor, been invited four times to the Arnold Classics, and is the 4-time Champ of Pittsburgh Pro.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Finding good people to work for your company is the hardest part. If you find a gem, nourish that employee with true respect. Most of my employees have been with me for over 15-years. I pay them well, I do not micro-manage them, they are able to pick their hours, and I only ask that they treat KMM's clients as their own. Their job is to take care of the company. My job is to take care of my employees. That is my philosophy.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Do what you love and love what you do.
- Marketing, marketing, marketing is important. The first few years I was in business, I knocked on doors, went to every networking event possible, joined organizations that targeted my audience, got on the boards of those organizations, and got involved in my community to give back.
- Listen to your client's needs and fill them. Whenever a client mentioned a need, I figured out a way to fill that need because no one was filling it. The more I did, the more I grew. The more I grew, the more others told others about my services. My marketing was self-sustained by word of mouth.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Your resource of income should come from more than one source. KMM compliments lenoregregson.com and vice versa, but they are separate. One deals with health, and the other deals with fitness. When the pandemic hit, my company was hit hard because there were no longer onsite at companies. Immediately we did covid testing onsite and at home, and KMM actually made twice the annual income in that year than in prior years. Always put your eggs in more than one basket.
