Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Steven Munatones, co-founder and CEO of KAATSU Global, Inc., located in Huntington Beach, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
KAATSU are easy-to-use products that significantly improve blood circulation and hormonal production - whether at home or in the field. Our products are primarily used by older women and the U.S. military special forces. They are also used by Olympic medalists, actresses, and working people from all walks of life with normal aches and pains.
Tell us about yourself
I first saw KAATSU used in Japan in 2001. I met the inventor in Tokyo, who had quietly built up a tremendous following in Japan. Dr. Sato mentored me for 13 years before he allowed me to launch the technology outside of Japan in 2014. The number of messages of gratitude and appreciation that I receive every day from working and retired women and soldiers would easily motivate anyone to do what I do 365 days per year.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Translating the scientific and medical information about KAATSU products and protocols over 13 years from Japanese to English in order to launch the business in the U.S. and recruiting deeply committed, like-minded people to join the company.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Building a company and establishing a market - now recognized in multiple areas - that never previously existed.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Find driven, passionate people who share your vision - not people who simply want a job.
- Every day, think about and do something important for today, one year from now, and three years from now.
- Be kind and be appreciative of those who work with you. Your sincere friendship will get you through tough times.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I had a massive heartache and was in a coma for nine days in 2016. My 17-year-old son saved me by doing CPR until the paramedics showed up. When I was released from the hospital, I used my own product (KAATSU Nano) daily, which enabled me to rehabilitate and effectively recover quickly. I previously learned these protocols while being trained at the University of Tokyo Hospital by KAATSU cardiologists.
