Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kimberly Austin, owner and a Certified Massage Therapist of Massage Kneads, located in Fair Oaks, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I run a massage therapy practice. My clients are a range of people, 20-80, who suffer from back pain, shoulder aches, migraines, headaches, jaw pain. I help them through massage but with the added help of cups.
Tell us about yourself
I started in 2015 after being an accountant for 2.5 years. I needed a change, and I truly love helping people on a one-on-one basis. Massage is like a puzzle, people come to me with pieces all over the place, and I come in and try to put it together so they can feel better and hopefully stay that way!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Just seeing people come in hurt and leaving happy. Knowing I made that difference in their day just makes it all worth it!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Feeling like you deserve it. Imposter syndrome is a real thing. Somedays, you just are struggling and amazed that people choose to come to you, and it can be a challenge to accept that you are good at your job.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Find your passion. Find a mentor or group like SCORE. Network.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
If you find what you love doing, just keep learning and expanding yourself. Be authentic; not everyone is going to like you; that is okay. You will find your customer base. Find books, read, become an expert, never stop learning.
