What's your business, and who are your customers?

At Just Be Cooking, we believe where there's food, there should always be music! Why? Because in the end, music makes everything better. Just like food, it fills us in places we didn't know we needed filling. That's why since 2017, we've been hard at work creating fabulous cooking with music experiences with amazing local talents across Toronto. From Junior Chef to Cocktail Hour, our Meal Kits with Music are great for anyone who likes to have some fun in the kitchen while learning something neat!

Tell us about yourself

After having my first child ten years ago, I learned the art of patience fast! That's when I went from amateur cook to super-duper chef. You can't hurry a souffle. You shouldn't rush a chop (ouch!). Same with raising children. You shouldn't rush the goodbye at daycare. That'll cost you at pick up. ;)

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The best part of this job is when we hear great things about our service from our amazing customers. Their continued belief in us has always been our fuel.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Perseverance will be difficult during times of impatience. With the world always looking for ways to move even faster, patience escapes us. We believe that we'll fall behind if we’re not moving like the rest. But that’s not true. Your advantage is your pace. Your advantage is that you see the bigger picture and understand the importance of a solid foundation. Once you understand this, you’ll do things your way in your own time. To know when to say no. When to pivot. When to start again, if need be, and not be discouraged.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Always start with 'Why'?
  2. Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.
  3. Pivot, change, amend, go slower, but never ever quit!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Success is not found at the finish line. There isn't even a finish line. Success, much like life, is a dance, not a race. It's only when we allow ourselves to enjoy the dance will we ever truly be successful.
