What's your business, and who are your customers?
I work in the tattoo industry, and I like to think my customers are everyone and anyone (of age, of course).
Tell us about yourself
I am, first and foremost, an artist. I have always pursued art with no idea where it was going to take me. All I knew was that whatever career I ended up in, it would be a creative one, and I would be happy doing it.
I found tattooing after graduating from Alfred University with a degree in fine arts. As soon as I started my apprenticeship, I worked relentlessly at learning everything there was to know about the medium and the business side. My goal was always to have my own private studio and to curate a space that felt like home to everyone that entered it. I continuously am working on my craft and know there’s no end to learning new skills.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is building a loyal clientele who continue to come back time and time again.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is managing a healthy work/home life balance. It’s easy to forget that you need and deserve time off once in a while.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Put in the time and be a sponge.
- Have a purpose.
- Network and use your resources.
