Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Juhara Kirby, Founder of JudyMakesJuices, located in Bryans Road, MD, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is JudyMakesJuices, where I offer anyone looking to make healthier lifestyle changes cold-pressed juices made with fresh fruits and vegetables. I pride myself on using fresh ingredients without additives, sugar, or water.
Tell us about yourself
Our story may be familiar to many. My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and again in 2019. I encouraged her to make healthier food choices. She was very reluctant and stubborn then, but that didn't stop me from wanting to learn more about health and wellness. In my research, I stumbled across juicing. While juicing for a friend, I created a menu, posted it to my Instagram story, and JudyMakesJuices blossomed. I started juicing to help my mom become the healthiest version of herself. I learned quickly that more people wanted help to live a healthier lifestyle. As a teacher, I have a passion for helping others. I want people to know that eating healthy can be delicious. I offer fresh cold-pressed juices, juice cleanses, smoothies, and açaí bowls. This year I'm looking to expand my business by going full-time with my food truck, website, and menu, adding salads, parfaits, and fruit bowls. My hope and goal are that people will make healthier adjustments to their life. As I like to say, it's a lifestyle change.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner has been opening up my food truck. It has had its ups and downs, but it has been the most rewarding part.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Maintaining all the behind-the-scenes components of a business to ensure it functions appropriately or having the funding to expand.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Believe in yourself.
- Stay consistent, and don't give up.
- Do something for your business at least 30 mins a day.
